Monday, 3/22/2021 - SAU29 COVID-19 Update

Good Afternoon,

I don’t know about anyone else, but I thought it was great to be able to wear shorts while spending a significant amount of time outdoors this weekend. It looks very favorable for the remainder of the week as well with the possibility of reaching 70 degrees at one point!  

Our staff vaccination efforts continue to move forward quickly. We had more than 550 staff members in total looking to become vaccinated during Phase 2a that began in earnest on March 17th when the State of New Hampshire launched it’s new registration website. This does not include the staff that were previously vaccinated in either the Phase 1a or 1b groups.  Between the state’s registration and the internal registration that we have opened with the Greater Monadnock Public Health Network, we have over 67% of the 550+ that signed up having received their first dose or having scheduled their appointment for their first dose as of 2:15 this afternoon!  Quite an effort in such a short timeframe and we are now under 200 to go!

Some important information to keep in mind as our staff continue down the path of becoming vaccinated:

  1. Second doses can not be administered until 3 or 4 weeks after receiving the first dose (depending on which vaccine is received), unless it is the Johnson and Johnson vaccine in which only one dose is administered.  
  2. We don’t have the luxury of choosing which vaccine is administered when going to a vaccination clinic.  Supply and allocation dictate what is available at the time of appointment.
  3. After completing all doses, there is a 14-day period before any of the vaccines take their full effect. 

We will be finalizing our review of the updated guidance released by health officials last week during meetings with different groups of staff and will provide those details by the close of the day on Friday.   There are a number of moving parts that we want to be current with in order to continue to provide the safest environment possible for all of our students and staff. 

For those that follow our Facebook pages, you’ll notice some additional content that we’re pushing out now and moving forward. We will be including some of the flyers that are sent in to our districts that we post electronically that provide different opportunities in our communities. The link to our page where they are posted is included in the update below and can be accessed at your convenience.  Please take a moment to see what our community partners have available.

You will also start seeing different job opportunities as they become available.  Our districts and our schools are great places to work, so if you or someone you know may be interested, please feel free to share that information as you feel appropriate.  Each of our schools may be unique in one way or another, but the one thing that is clearly consistent is that we have OUTSTANDING people working with our AMAZING students!

Keeping along that line, I’m going to issue a new challenge to our students.  It’s a relatively simple task, but one that will require a little thought and creativity.  Please see below in the update for more information and details.  This challenge will be open until Friday, April 2nd.

That will just about do it for this week, but before I sign off, some gentle reminders as we continue to navigate the ever changing landscape before all of us:

  • Please continue to Do Your Part by practicing the Big 4.  This will continue to provide all of us the safest environment possible while we are at school.  Important to be mindful that both masking and distancing are reported to be the best defense for community spread when out and about.
  • Please continue to reach out to your child(ren)’s teacher(s), counselor(s) and principal(s) with any questions or concerns you might have.  They stand ready to assist in any way possible.
  • If you haven’t done so in a while, please check in on those that you hold dear.  This pandemic has affected everyone to some level around the world.

Tell us what makes your school awesome and unique.  What is it that you like the most about your school?  I don’t want to steer any responses as they really ought to be organic from our student’s perspective, but last spring, I issued a challenge asking students to tell us what they missed the most about school while we were fully remote.  Those responses were amazing and I’m confident these responses will be equally amazing.

Every student in SAU 29 and all children 18 and under are eligible for free meals through June 2021. Meals for all students in SAU 29 are free at this time. Students are eligible for up to 7 days’ worth of meals per week, remote meals and/or in-school dining depending on the modality of their instruction.


Please read carefully for the schedule of remote meals that best fit your student’s situation as schools have a variety of instructional plans.  


- All hybrid students attending school in person 2 days a week (remote 3 days) may receive a total of 5 days’ worth of remote meals each week: 3 days’ worth of meals on Tuesday and 2 days’ worth of meals on Friday.


- Fully remote students may receive a total of 7 days’ worth of remote meals each week, 3 days’ worth of meals on Tuesday and 4 days’ worth of meals on Friday.


-Chesterfield, Keene Grades K & 1, Nelson, Perkins Academy, and Westmoreland students that are receiving in-person learning 4 days per week and remote 1 day per week may receive 3 days’ worth of remote meals on Friday.


- Marlborough School and select Chesterfield and Nelson students that are in-person 5 days per week may receive 2 days’ worth of remote meals on Friday representing meals for Saturday and Sunday.


Please do not sign up under a parent name, use your student’s name only.

Please submit your order for the following week's meals no later than 7:00am Friday, March 26th. You will receive an email confirmation after placing your order. This form is to order meals for remote pick up on Tuesday, March 30th and Friday, April 2nd.

Screening Assessment:  Please continue to complete the screening assessment each school day.  This allows our school nurses to continue to monitor and provide support with regard to the health of the school community.  Please note that we are not requesting that this be done on the weekends, holidays or breaks, only on days that school would typically be in session.

School Model:  As of March 1, 2021

  • Chesterfield:  Fully onsite for all grade levels four days per week and continued the remote only option for those that selected that model at the beginning of the school year.  

  • Harrisville:  Hybrid model and continued the remote only option for those that selected that model at the beginning of the school year.

  • Keene:  Hybrid model and continued the remote only option for those that selected that model at the beginning of the school year.  Planned shift for grades K-1 to fully onsite four days per week beginning March 18.

  • Marlborough:  Fully onsite 5 days per week for all grade levels with a remote only option for students.

  • Marlow:  Hybrid for grades 1-2 only and fully onsite four days per week for all other grade levels and continued the remote only option for those that selected that model at the beginning of the school year. 

  • Nelson:  Fully onsite for all grade levels four days per week and continued the remote only option for those that selected that model at the beginning of the school year. 

  • Westmoreland: Fully onsite for all grade levels four days per week and continued the remote only option for those that selected that model at the beginning of the school year.

Special Education: Special Education works very closely with building leaders to ensure that the needs of students with disabilities are met. As always, please reach out to your child’s special education teacher or building principal with questions. Governor Sununu has also activated a 24-hour COVID-19 hotline for all related needs and supports. The hotline can be reached by dialing 211.



Parents of 9th through 12th grade students:  Please if you have not already picked up your students Chromebook for the 1:1 program we need you to print and sign the agreement HERE .

We can not release the Chromebook to your student until we get a signed agreement. Please send the agreement in with your student.

Parents and Students, Chromebooks should be used for your school work only. Please do not eat while using your school issued Chromebook. We are experiencing high volumes of damaged Chromebooks due to spills.  Please make sure you fill in the online registration for your students. It is important to have all the correct information in place.

Teachers, we have installed some software for remote teaching. Currently we have Kami which integrates with Google classroom. Screencastify will let you record your computer screen to share with the class. You can also have your image in the corner of the screen as you record the lesson. EquatIO  Easily add equations, formulas, graphs  to G Suite for Education. It has a scientific calculator, and periodic table charts.

Clever academy for teachers: Login to your clever account and click on the question mark in the upper right corner of the screen and choose Clever academy.
